T O P I C R E V I E Wmilkit1I have seen the cool Code 3 command module model signed before but was wondering if anyone ever had the actual model signed and not just the stand? I haven't seen one in person and was wondering if the body of the ship could be autographed?Robert PearlmanThe model has a textured surface, so it wouldn't be the cleanest of signatures. It would probably work best if the autograph could be large, so perhaps across the heat shield at the bottom.milkit1Thanks Robert. I think I'm going to go ahead and buy one so I can see for myself. They are cool either way.Sam QueThe Astronaut Science Foundation offered a command module (Code 3 type) signed by Alan Bean and Richard Gordon. This was a few years back. The signatures were on the aft heat shield. The surface was textured. The signatures were legible but signatures did not look right, they had a forced looked to it. milkit1Awesome! Anyone have any pics of these? I can't seem to find any.Sam QueGave the one I purchased to a relative. I will get you a photo. NovaRobThe heat shield on this model is covered with small dimples, as is most of the rest of the model, making it very difficult to sign, even with a thick-tipped pen. The pen tip grabs in every dimple. We've had several signed during our mail-in signings, both on the heat shield and the sides of the model, and the astronauts found it very difficult to sign, and the signatures look shaky at best. It can be done, but if you want a clean, crisp signature, it's probably best to have the side of the base/stand signed with extra-fine silver or fine gold.jerseyboyThis is the command module that was for sale at the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation dinner a few years back.milkit1Thanks for the pics. I just got my model last week. I think it can be signed on the model itself near the back opposite side of the door. I am going to give it a try anyways.
